The Season's Over

Volleyball season has come to an end. The Eagles limped their way into the district tournament that was held on Saturday October 25th. They came out in their first game of the tournament wide awake and ready to play. They played the hosting team Prairie View. The held their lead the whole game and showed everyone what they are really made of...finally. We've been waiting to see them play up to their own level all year, why they wait until the end of the season to show it I'll never know. They lost the next two games, won the fourth, and lost the fifth. Right after that match they played Evergreen H.S. and beat them in 4. They made it to the crossover and played the number one team from the other pool, Roosevelt H.S. They lost to them in 3 games. Kind of a sad way to end the season, but we were glad they made it to districts. We have high hopes for next year to make it to the state tournament. It's been an eventful 3 months, but I'm glad to have my evenings back with my husband. Don't get me wrong we love volleyball season, and are very much looking forward to next year, but I'm glad it only last for 3 months. One last GO EAGLES!!!

Race for the Cure

My mom is in town this weekend, and one of the things we made plans to do was the Denver Race for the Cure. We decided to race it this year because it we General Conference weekend, and the race was early enough that we could get back in time to watch the first Sunday session. It was a great turn out. Denver was trying to get their title back for "biggest race in America" by having more than 67,000 people there. I think they succeeded. We were seeing jersey numbers in the 68,000's. I was amazed at how many people there were. This was my first year doing it, and I would love to do it again in the future. If it doesn't land on Conf. weekend again then I'll defiantly sleep for the cure still. I felt especially thankful to be able to do it this year. I work in the Medical Imaging department at my hospital, and I personally send out letters to women everyday telling them their results to their mammograms. I don't send out many abnormal result letters, but when I do my heart goes out to them. I hope by walking today I did some good for the cure.

Volleyball Update

The Eagles played against the Greeley Central Wild Cats on Saturday. Needless to say Jeff's J.V. team had the worst energy they've had all year. It looked like they were not awake out there. It's like they didn't want to be there, and played like they didn't show up. They lost in two. Varsity however had an up and down match. They won their game in 5. Next week they will play Skyline and Northridge High Schools.

My first diaper cake

I made my first diaper cake for my good friend Laura. It turned out better than I was expecting. It was pretty easy to make, but it cost a little more than I thought it would. I had fun making it, the octopus on top was my color inspiration (green and blue). I found that camo ribbon at Hobby Lobby, it matched perfectly. I thought I would go more with a sports theme, but it ended up looking more like an underwater theme. With the Octopus on top, the camo looking like water, and the blue and green accent floral pieces looking like bubbles. It was a big hit! Oh, and she had her baby on Sept.30th at 10:00pm, a little boy named Michael Scott Jaramillo.

I LOVE THE 80'S!!!

We hosted a JV team building party in our tiny apartment on Friday night. It was SOOOOO much fun. Our theme was the 80's. We told the girls they had to dress up or else they couldn't come in. We played Rock Band, Mario Cart and ordered Chinese food. It was so much fun to see all the girls get into it with their costumes and playing rock band. Jeff and I had a great time getting our costumes and as you can see, they turned out pretty awesome. It was a great bonding night for the team, some of the varsity girls were jeleous that they couldn't come. Maybe we'll do a whole team party next year!

Do you like Jeff's new tattoo's? He got it done just for our party. J/K it's just a sleeve we found at a costume store.

The weirdo in the pink wig is Jeff's friend Cody. He found that wig at a great costume store in Thornton, and the green robe at Arc Thrift store. He claimed to be a "80's cartoon character". It was really fun picking out our costumes, the three of us got them at Arc.

Volleyball Update

I've been a slacker about getting these updates posted, so I'm going to make it a short one. The Eagles have played a lot of volleyball since my last post. Three weeks ago they played at Fossil Ridge High School against the Saber Cats, and at home against the Sterling Tigers. Now do you get my whole "cat fight" thing? The varsity team lost to Fossil Ridge in 5 games. JV won in 3 games. Varsity lost to Sterling in 3 games. JV lost in 2 games. Saturday that same week Jeff's JV team had an all day tournament at Rock Canyon High School in Highlands Ranch. There were eight JV teams from all over the state, and one from Wyoming that were there. Jeff's team played the best they have played all season and took 3rd place in the tournament, losing only to the eventual champions, Denver East, in 3 games. Two weeks ago Broomfield played against Silver Creek, Varsity won their match in 3 and JV won in 2. That same week they played a new school to their league , Roosevelt, both teams lost in 3. Last Tuesday Broomfield played the Thompson Valley eagles at home. Varsity lost in 4. JV won their match in two. On Thursday they played the Mountain View mountain lions at M.V.H.S. Jeff's team played well and won in 3. However varsity had their ups and downs and lost in 3. On Saturday Broomfield hosted their "Third Annual Broomfield Volleyball Invitational". Eight teams participated in the all day tournament. Broomfield started off really well winning their first two matches against Greeley Cental, and Sand Creek. They lost their third match in pool play against Boulder. They placed number one in their pool, which took them into the playoffs. They played Berthoud for the championship match. Berthoud really only has one outstanding player but the Eagles just couldn't seem to step up their game and ended up loosing in 2 (they only play 3 games for tournaments). WHEW! See lots of volleyball. That's all for now, I'll have more updates coming for this next weeks games.

Congratulations!!

To my sister-in-law JoEllen and her husband Sean. They are expecting their first born! The new addition to the family is due to be here on February 14th. What a perfect day to bring more love into this world. Congrats you two, you'll be great parents! P.S. We just found out they are having a BOY! Yay, the first grandson on the Larsen side!

Random Pic

I caught Jeff asleep on the couch just before dinner was ready, and I couldn't resist taking this picture. Priceless!

The Eagles vs. the Greeks Week

The Eagles played two away matches this week. The first being on Tuesday at Longmont High School against the Trojans. Jeff's team (JV) went to three games. They won the first game 25-23, then played the longest 2nd game that Jeff has ever coached 31-33. In that second game his tallest and most intimidating middle blocker got hurt. She rolled her ankle and will probably be out for a week. Since they lost the second game they had to go to a 3rd game and lost 5-15. The second match of the week was played against the Spartans at Greeley West High School. Jeff's team won their first match of the season, 25-16 25-22. Go JV!!! Unfortunatly the Varsity team wasn't victorious in their match. They lost in 4 games. Next week they will be playing a couple of cat teams, watch out for the cat fights!!! More on that next week.

Go Eagles!!

It's that time of year again for us, yes it's high school volleyball season. For those of you who don't know, Jeff coaches the J.V. team at Broomfield High School. He's been coaching there 5 years going on 6. He has more Eagle pride than he ever had from his own high school (Horizon Hawks). I've only been a part of the Broomfield volleyball scene for 3 years, but I'm starting so see why he has so much eagle pride. The spirit and the energy from these girls is just really addicting to be around, they are a great group of girls. It's hard to watch the seniors graduate every year, next year will be the hardest when 9 girls that we have become very attached to graduate. We have watched them come on when they were freshman and mature into some great volleyball players, and great young women. So for the next 2 months our blog will become a tribute to the girls on the Broomfield High School volleyball team, with updates from all the games (both J.V. and Varsity) and any highlights that may stand out from those games. The first game of the season was on Thursday night (Aug. 28th) at BHS against the Niwot Cougars. The match went to four games,25-20 25-19 24-26 25-14 . We're very happy that Varsity's season has started with a good note. Jeff's team lost in two to their J.V. team. We hope they get it back together for the next game. I'll have more updates after next weeks games!

2 YEARS!!

I've been such a slacker about blogging lately. In fact this post is being posted a few days late. Jeff and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary on Tuesday August 26th. It's hard to believe it's been two years already. Time flies when your having fun! I mostly just wanted to share with everyone what a wonderful husband I have. He is so loving, caring, thoughtful, and he even cleans more than I do! What more could I ask for? I can't wait to spend the rest of eternity with him. I love you Jeff! Thanks for putting up with me and for loving me!

Happy 4th of July!!

Happy Birthday America! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Jeff and I took off to Utah for the weekend. We stayed with my parents and had a great time. We BBQ'd every night, Jeff was very happy about that, BBQ is his favorite. We hung out by the pool, and visited a few of our friends. It was great to see you Tash and Tim, and Marc and Sara! It was a short but sweet visit to Utah. It was so short that we didn't get any pictures, maybe next year.

Birthday Weekend

I should have posted this on Monday but I just didn't take the time. Oh well better late than never. It was my birthday on Monday (the 23rd) so we decided to get away for the weekend. To start the weekend off Jeff surprised me at work with a bouquet of flowers. They're gorgeous. Thank you my sweet husband! When I got off work we packed up our things and took off to the the family cabin in Allens Park, CO. On Saturday we spent the day in Estes Park (about 30 min from the cabin). We started off at Lake Estes and rented ourselves a kayak. I'd never kayaked before, and it showed. Jeff got a little frustrated with me but then decided to calm down and teach me how to properly row. So after an hour of getting wet with only a little bit of sun coming out to dry us off, we headed back to the marina. We hung out by the lake and had lunch. After lunch we rented a couple of scooters. We had a blast going through the back parts of Estes that we never get to see. It was a beautiful ride. We ended our ride going through main street. It was crowed with plenty of tourists. On our way back to the rental shop we were passed up by three trike motorcycles. They all turned and waved, laughed, hooted and hollered. It was hilarious. Before we headed back to the cabin we made the traditional stop at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. I had the best caramel apple, and Jeff got chocolate covered toffee....ummm yum. We thoroughly wore ourselves out, so we ended up taking a nice long nap. On Sunday we just enjoyed the peace and quiet that the cabin has to offer. We mostly read and napped. On Monday we forced ourselves to go back to our normal lives. Since it was my birthday we celebrated with a delicious lunch at The Cheesecake Factory. Jeff had an appointment later that afternoon to get the pins in his toes taken out. I'm sorry I didn't have my camera with me this time. But they pretty much look the same as the do in the other pictures. He had the stitches and the pins removed, and he brought normal shoes with him in the hopes of wearing them out of there. He was very disappointed when that didn't happen. But not to worry he was able to put some flip flops on a few days later. He still can't wear normal shoes but he isn't giving up hope that it will happen soon. So that wraps up our enjoyable weekend, hope you enjoy the pictures.

Here are the beautiful flowers that Jeff surprised me with at work. He told them exactly how he wanted it, he did his homework online. Those are long stem roses, so pretty...aaahhh.

Jeff totally pumped up and ready to go. He even wore is special biker shoes.

Here we are just before taking off on our scooter ride around Estes Park. The owner had us try them out around the parking lot first. I tried it first, then Jeff. She asked me if we have ridden one before. I told her I had never driven (there's nothing to it) and that Jeff used to own a bullet bike. She said "I would have guessed that you would have been the one with experience." I guess I'm just a natural. :)

Just trying to look more beautiful than the scenery.....Not possible, it was gorgeous up there!

Jeff didn't want to get off the scooter for his picture. I'm running into trying to make a weird gesture but I was a little slow.

Jeff REALLY enjoyed his scooter ride.

Jeff trying to tickle the DEAD elk on the wall.
He doesn't have a name, any suggestions?

This is the Larsen Family Cabin. It's been in the family for a long time.

The St. Vrain River, as you can see it runs directly behind the cabin....very peaceful to listen to.

Jeff on the deck enjoying the sun and the river. This is what we did all day Sunday.

GROSS!!!!

Well Jeff went in for is first check up appointment, and let me tell you I wasn't expecting them to look this gross! I knew that it would be bruised and their were pins in them, but I forgot about the stitches. He has about 20 in each toe. The pin has green topper on it, kind of looks like one of those sewing push pins. I had no idea how long the pin was until I saw the picture of the x-ray. They're both about 4 inches long. The doctor was quite impressed with his work he said to Jeff "If you don't mind me patting my self on the back, they look pretty dang good." It's good to know that the Doc has confidence in himself. Anyway I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

Bye Bye Raptor Toes

Jeff went in for surgery on both his pinkie toes today. We showed up at the surgery center 30 minutes early, so they were able to begin the surgery early. We put them ahead of schedule for the rest of the day. That's a good thing in the medical field, in fact when is that not a good thing. The surgery lasted 2 hours, and recovery for about 30 min. Of course he will be at home recovering for at least 3 weeks. The surgeon said that everything went great, and expects a full recovery. He cut the tendons, took out some bone, and put pins in each of his toes. He has to keep his feet elevated and keep ice on them to prevent swelling. We can't forget the drugs of course. He's all doped up on Percocet, and is feeling pretty pain free right now. He's also saying "I love you" a lot, I guess this makes him a little more affectionate than normal. Not that he doesn't say it enough, he's just saying A LOT today. I told him it's always nice to hear, so bring on the affection! He's probably just sucking up because he knows that I have to wait on him, and if he's not nice he's not getting dinner! Now he just needs to rest and follow the doctor's orders. He'll probably get pretty restless with all this sitting around that he'll be doing so feel free to give him a call, he'd be happy to hear from you. We'll keep you posted on the rest of the recovery, for now here are some pictures from today.....

He had surgery on both feet.
The right was worse than the
left.

This was before the drugs!
